Get In The Game
The Get In The Game(GITG) project has been up and running since 2003. We started with the basic idea of using star athletes and their influence to help keep the lines of communication open with young people concerning, alcohol, drug use, peer pressure, tolerance, and nutrition.
Our aim was to make 20-25 school visits per year. These school visits would include myself, Ervin Latimer and a current or former athlete. The past 15 years has seen GITG make over 500 school visits, work with some of Finland’s top named athletes, Sports Ministers, coaches, politicians and teachers. We have touched the lives of thousands of young people throughout the country.
With the success of our school visits GITG has branched out in to many other great projects. Free summer tennis camps, free summer basketball camps, cooperating with sports federations in our Heads Up seminars, the Keep it clean and keep it real antidoping dvd for schools, junior team competitions, McDonald’s summer job contest, our tv program(Nelonen Sports Pro) on nutrition, GITG Goes America, and Future Stars are all in our portfolio.
In 2009 I had the pleasure of being nominated at the Finnish Sports Gala(Suomen Urheilugaala) for my work with young people. WHAT AN HONOR!!
The first 15 years has been a blast! We at Get In The Game ry look forward to the challenge of the next 15 years.
